My Top 10 Films of 2018

My Top 10 Films of 2017

The tradition continues. I’ve been documenting my top films of the year since 2002, when Bowling for Columbine took the top spot. This past year had some real gems, including those that made this list, as well as some that didn’t, like low-budget indie The Florida Project and large-scale blockbuster Beauty and the Beast. Check out my 2017 list, then tell me what made your list.

My Top 10 Films of 2016

With the Oscars just days away, we’re once again reflecting on last year’s theatrical releases. This year, I’m releasing my list later than usual so that I could have more time to watch as many 2016 films as possible. Many fan favorites didn’t make my list, including several Best Picture nominees. And some overlooked films are among my top films. If you’re still catching up, hopefully this list gives you a place to start.

Since 2002, I’ve presented a list of 20 movies. This year, I’m simplifying—really honing in on the top 10 pictures that represent a mix of personal favorites, as well as the best-made films of the year. Enjoy!

My Top 20 Films of 2015

These are my Top 20 Films of 2015. For this year, I’ve decided to change my criteria a bit. These lists used to be the top films I saw in a movie theatre that calendar year, so it would include any previous year’s late releases that I screened in a theatre at the beginning of the following year. As a sign of the times, and the fact that content is being consumed across various screens now more than ever, this list is composed of the top 20 films of 2015 that had a theatrical release that year, regardless of when or where I watched them. Top films from 2014 that I screened in a theatre in 2015 are listed as honorable mentions.
